COVID-19 is the infectious disease caused by coronavirus SARS-CoV-2. The most common symptoms of COVID-19 are dry cough, tiredness and fever. Most patients recover from COVID-19 within a few weeks, but some patients have symptoms lasting for weeks or even months after recovery from acute illness, such as fatigue, shortness of breath and cough. This is a review of what we currently know about the clinical disease and its severity as well as which diagnostic strategies are recommended during and after hospital admission.COVID-19 is the infectious disease caused by SARS-CoV-2. This is a review of the current treatment strategies available for patients with COVID-19 during hospital admission. Patients requiring hospitalisation frequently suffer from respiratory failure and may require oxygen therapy. Insufficient response to oxygen may be an indication, that other modalities such as high-flow nasal cannula, continuous positive airway pressure or mechanical ventilation are needed. The only medical treatments currently being used are remdesivir and dexamethasone. This review describes the growing research in virtual reality (VR) for healthcare purposes. In recent years, the technological improvements have expanded the possibility of investigating VR in diagnostics as well as treatment of mental and behavioural disorders. The existing literature regarding phobia, post-traumatic stress disorder, addiction, psychotic, eating and affective disorders is summarised and discussed in terms of clinical applicability.Physical abuse is experienced by approximately 20% of children in Denmark. Healthcare workers issue less than 20% of all reports suspecting physical child abuse to responsible authorities. Insufficient knowledge and other barriers may partly explain this low percentage. Recognition and adequate handling by referral to child protective teams and reporting to local authorities are of paramount importance to prevent mortality, physical and mental morbidity. With this review we hope to enlighten Danish healthcare workers and thereby ensure a qualified course of action for children, who have been subjected to physical abuse. This case report describes a patient with colonic Crohn's disease and perianal disease. The patient experienced extensive and severe pyoderma gangrenosum after colectomy. Steroids and anti-inflammatory medication had no effect on pyoderma or the persistent perianal and rectal disease. All pyoderma lesions eventually healed after proctectomy and excision of perianal fistulae. The relevance and effect of surgically induced remission on medically resistant inflammatory bowel disease-associated pyoderma gangrenosum is highlighted. The duration of immunity after SARS-CoV-2 infection or vaccination is uncertain, but major advances have been made in the understanding of SARS-CoV-2 B- and T-cell protection. In this review, key data from studies of re-infection as well as B- and T-cell immunity after infection and vaccination are presented. The COVID-19 pandemic may not only increase mortality due to the virus but also due to the indirect effects. The disease continues to ravage health and economic metrics globally, which is likely to increase maternal and under five-year child mortality in low- and middle-income countries. This review highlights key areas of concern for maternal and under five-year child mortality due to the indirect effects of the COVID-19 pandemic in low- and middle-income countries. This review is about the development and use of vaccines from the early smallpox vaccine in the 18th century to the forthcoming SARS-CoV 2 vaccines. Immunisations have been of paramount importance for childhood mortality and public health in general, but some obstacles have also been encountered such as vaccine failures and vaccine scepticism. This calls for continued emphasis on large phase three studies not only for demonstration of efficacy but also for safety and possible side effects. The rapid approval of SARS-CoV 2 vaccines requires special attention.Haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c) reflects the glycaemic status of the latest 2-3 month and is used in both diagnosing and monitoring diabetes. Different circumstances may lead to spurious HbA1c results as summarised in this review. HbA1c is susceptible to changes in erythrocyte turnover (e.g. anaemia) regardless of measurement method, and to analytical interference (e.g. haemoglobin variants) depending on the method. The laboratory may detect and warn of suspected analytical interference. https://www.selleckchem.com/products/agk2.html However, if the clinical presentation and glycaemic measures are incoherent, spurious HbA1c should be suspected and fasting glucose should be measured.Depression is common in pregnant women and is often not treated. It can have major consequences for both mother and child. It is associated with several complications, including miscarriages, vaginal bleeding and preterm birth. It is important, that healthcare professionals, who have contact with pregnant women, have knowledge about dealing with pregnant women with depression and its symptoms, as a large proportion of these depressions continue post-partum. In this review, we describe the aetiology, assessment, potential complication, antenatal care and treatment of pregnant women with depression. The causes of cholestasis range from intrinsic hepatocellular disease to extrahepatic mechanical obstruction of the bile tree. Gallstones are the most common cause of obstructive cholestasis, but it is not seldomly associated with malignant disease. A systematic approach to diagnosing cholestatic liver disease, including thorough patient history, clinical examination, lab-panels and proper use of imaging and treatment alternatives, starting from least invasive and most cost-effective, ensures efficient patient outcomes and minimises the risk of complications as summarised in this review.Efficacious and safe vaccines are important tools in handling the corona pandemic. As summarised in this review, the European approval system has undergone a tuning, streamlining and increase in efficiency in order to be able to quickly evaluate and hopefully approve corona vaccines, without compromising the assessment quality.
